San Diego, CA & Paris, France – October 2026 – AgileBio, developer of the LabCollector laboratory information management platform, today announced full integration between LabCollector Data Logger and Shelly smart monitoring devices.
Laboratories protect more than temperature. They watch their equipment, their storage areas, their utilities, and the physical security of their rooms. Until now, that meant juggling separate apps and disconnected alerts — a Shelly app for power and doors, another system for sensors, and no shared history between them.
With this integration, Shelly devices become first-class monitored sources inside LabCollector Data Logger. Power consumption, water leaks, alarm triggers, and door openings are captured, graphed, alerted, and archived alongside the environmental sensor data laboratories already monitor — in the same platform, with the same alerting rules and the same traceable records.
Four New Categories of Monitored Events
LabCollector Data Logger now supports the following Shelly device families:
Shelly power monitoring devices
Track voltage, current, power draw, and energy consumption of instruments, freezers, and equipment in real time — and see instantly when a device stops drawing power.
Shelly water leak detectors
Place leak sensors under benches, sinks, cold rooms, and storage areas. LabCollector Data Logger records the leak event and triggers an alert the moment water is detected.
Shelly smart switches as alarm triggers
Use a Shelly smart switch or relay as a universal alarm input — bring dry-contact alarms from legacy equipment, cabinets, or third-party systems into LabCollector as monitored events.
Shelly door open detectors
Monitor doors of cold rooms, incubators, freezer rooms, and secure storage. Every opening and closing is logged, with alerts when a door stays open longer than expected.
Each Shelly device is configured like any other Data Logger sensor: give it a name, assign it to a laboratory or storage area, set its thresholds and alert recipients, and it appears in the sensor list with live values, historical graphs, and event records. The integration extends the same power-plot tracking introduced recently in Data Logger to the wider Shelly ecosystem of monitoring hardware.

What Laboratories Can Monitor
Detect a freezer or refrigerator that has stopped drawing power before samples are at risk
Catch a water leak under a bench, sink, or cooling system the moment it starts
Bring dry-contact alarms from older equipment into LabCollector without custom hardware
Know when a cold room, incubator, or storage door is left open
Correlate power, leak, alarm, and door events with environmental sensor data in one timeline
Document every event for quality control, audits, and traceability
Because every Shelly event lands in the same timeline as the laboratory's environmental sensors, teams can correlate causes and effects — for example, an incubator door left open, a temperature drift that follows it, and the power behavior of the unit during the same period.
Beyond Environment: Equipment, Utilities, and Security in One Place
Traditional lab monitoring focuses on temperature and humidity. The addition of power, leak, alarm, and door monitoring closes the gaps where incidents often start: a compressor that quietly fails, a slow leak behind a bench, a legacy instrument whose alarm contact was never connected to anything, or a cold room door that never fully closes.
By bringing these signals into LabCollector Data Logger alongside existing sensor monitoring, laboratories gain a single, documented view of the conditions that affect their samples, their equipment, and their premises.
"Laboratory monitoring should not stop at temperature. A failed compressor, a hidden water leak, an unconnected alarm, or an open cold room door are all real risks to samples and to the science that depends on them. By fully integrating Shelly devices into Data Logger, we let laboratories monitor power, leaks, alarms, and doors with the same alerts, graphs, and traceability they already rely on for their sensors — from one platform."
Key Benefits
One monitoring platform
Power, leaks, alarms, doors, and environmental sensors are all monitored and displayed together in LabCollector Data Logger — no separate vendor apps to check.
Unified alerting
Every Shelly event uses the Data Logger alert engine, with email and SMS notifications and escalation, so the right people know immediately.
Graphical history
Power consumption, leak events, alarm states, and door openings are logged continuously and shown as graphs, so trends and abnormal behavior are easy to spot.
Audit-ready traceability
Each reading and event is recorded with a timestamp and checksum integrity, supporting data integrity initiatives and quality procedures.
24/7 unattended monitoring
Monitoring continues nights, weekends, and holidays — protecting samples, equipment, and premises when no one is in the lab.
Simple to deploy
Shelly devices connect to the existing Wi-Fi network. Add them to LabCollector Data Logger and start monitoring without new cabling or infrastructure.
The integration also complements the power plug tracking capability introduced in Data Logger, giving laboratories a consistent way to document the electrical behavior of the equipment they depend on. Learn more in the power plug tracking article.
Availability
Shelly device support is available in LabCollector Data Logger for organizations running a current LabCollector version. Customers interested in connecting Shelly power, leak, alarm, or door devices can contact the AgileBio team for configuration guidance.
